Our Foundation

Strategic Foundation Programs.

The Luthando Maduna Foundation channels the success of the Stratum ecosystem back into the communities that sustain it — through education, enterprise, skills, food security and resilient infrastructure.

Strategic Foundation Programs

Turning community spending into community prosperity.

Every programme is funded by the circulation of daily essential spending inside the Stratum ecosystem — so the money a community spends is the same money that educates its children, trains its youth and powers its streets.

Our programmes

Five programmes. One mission.

01

The Bread-Money Bursary & Education Fund

The Opportunity: Transforming daily retail spending into long-term academic excellence. A dedicated percentage of daily retail grocery turnover is channelled into an educational fund for the children of community residents and complex employees.

Program Execution

  • Funding full and partial tertiary bursaries for technical, engineering, and financial degrees at South African universities.
  • Developing early childhood development (ECD) centres within or adjacent to Stratum Mixed Use developments to provide safe, subsidised childcare for working parents.
  • Establishing localised digital learning hubs equipped with high-speed internet and tech tools to bridge the digital divide.
02

Localized Supply Chain & Micro-Enterprise Integration

The Opportunity: Breaking down the barriers that prevent small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs) from accessing formal retail shelves.

Program Execution

  • The Supplier Incubator: funding compliance training, quality control assessments and packaging assistance for local township entrepreneurs, bakeries, urban agricultural projects and manufacturers.
  • Shelf-Space Guarantee: the foundation subsidises the logistics and listings needed to place verified local products directly onto the shelves of Stratum's internal retail grocery franchises, creating an instant commercial market for community makers.
03

The Artisan & Retail Skills Academy

The Opportunity: Addressing localised youth unemployment by building an active, deployment-ready pipeline of skilled workers.

Program Execution

  • Operating structured, accredited training facilities focusing on practical retail operations, point-of-sale systems, inventory logistics and cold-chain management.
  • Partnering with technical colleges to train local youth in maintenance engineering, solar energy installation and off-grid property maintenance.
  • Providing guaranteed employment absorption protocols, where top graduates from the academy are immediately placed into jobs within incoming Stratum developments and retail franchises.
04

Urban Agriculture & Food Security Loops

The Opportunity: Building a resilient, localised food production system that directly stabilises food costs and combats community nutritional deficits.

Program Execution

  • Utilising unutilised land or building rooftops within the Stratum footprint to establish highly productive, community-managed hydroponic and organic vegetable gardens.
  • Funding community farming training programs that pay local residents to manage the agricultural setups.
  • Creating a direct farm-to-shelf loop, where the fresh produce harvested from these gardens is purchased by Stratum retail franchises, cutting out corporate logistics middlemen and lowering the retail cost of fresh food for the community.
05

Off-Grid Community Resilience Infrastructure

The Opportunity: Utilising corporate energy frameworks to protect vulnerable community members from national municipal failures.

Program Execution

  • Expanding Stratum's smart, off-grid infrastructure beyond the physical commercial walls. Profits fund the installation of community solar-powered lighting grids and public water filtration kiosks in surrounding public spaces.
  • Creating "Load-Shedding Safe Havens" within the developments where community students can study, recharge devices and access emergency medical services during prolonged utility blackouts.
